About Me
Hi, I'm Sangeetha and this is about my journey into the world of makeup artistry...
How it started.
When I did make up for my first model, I had a sense of finally reaching home. Like my
life’s journey had led me to that moment. Growing up, I was the quintessential girl who loved
fashion and dressing up. I spent many summer afternoons imagining designs, cutting old
clothes up to restitch them into something new. I flipped through magazines, making mental
notes of how the models posed and pouted. But one of my most vivid memory from my growing
years is watching my mother’s two step ritual to dress up – brushing her hair and wearing her
bindi.
It felt only natural that I started modelling while I was still in college doing my BA in journalism
and psychology. What started as a fun thing to do soon became a career. As a model, I was
lucky to walk the runway for some of the best designers in the company, participate in Miss India
and icing on the cake – land a television contract as a VJ. This was the time I really discovered
my passion for hair dressing. And decided to make it my permanent job. I enrolled in the
Schwarzkopf academy to become a hair dresser.
Soon enough, I found myself moving from sitting in the dressing chair to standing behind it.
Working backstage at the Lakmé Fashion Week and getting hundreds of models looking their
best felt more rewarding than walking the ramp! It was where I met the most beautiful women,
understood their concerns, their different skin and hair types and how hair and make up can be
such a powerful tool to make their personality glow. I had found my true calling.
How it's going.
Today I work extensively with brands – Tanishq, Lifesryke, Color Chemistry, Taneira, Myntra,
Nalli saris, Peter England, The Summer House and Britannia to name just a few. I love working
on a brief, using human insight to deliver a look that not looks fabulous but helps a brand tell its
story with more impact.
And then there’s another kind of story I like to tell. One of love, hope and happiness. Bridal
make up is something I prep and prepare for with the greatest zeal. I understand the privilege of
being chosen to be part of one of the most important days of a girl’s life. I am part of each step –
feom planning the look, to skin care and styling, and even pre-wedding jitters! To this day I get
goosebumps every time a bride walks down the aisle with confidence and joy.
For over fifteen years I have dressed hundreds of brides, models and actresses (including
Deepika Padukone!) and been part of their moments of joy and growth. For over fifteen years,
women have trusted me with their hair, face and stories. I can say without hesitation that
standing behind the dressing chair – empowering women to feel beautiful and confident –
continues to be my favourite place to be.
